The World's #1 Brand Is Still Made in America
America's top 500 brands hit a record $6.44 trillion, and the U.S. holds the #1 nation-brand spot. Even amid friction, the world keeps buying American.
In 2026, America's brands hit a record valuation and held the top nation-brand spot on earth. And when political noise told consumers to walk away, they kept reaching for American products anyway. That is what durable brand power looks like.
Start with the number that matters most. According to Brand Finance, the world's leading brand-valuation firm, the combined value of the top 500 U.S. brands reached a record $6.44 trillion in 2026, up 10% year over year. Apple leads at $607.6 billion, followed by Microsoft ($565.2 billion) and Google ($433.1 billion), and YouTube is the strongest U.S. brand of all, with a near-perfect brand-strength score of 95.3 and Brand Finance's top AAA+ rating. No other country's brand ecosystem comes close.
And it is not just corporate. In Brand Finance's Global Soft Power Index 2026, the United States kept the #1 nation-brand position among all 193 countries, with a score of 74.9, still ahead of every rival. For anyone selling American goods to the world, that is the wind at your back.
The most valuable brand of origin on earth
Look at where America leads, because the list is commercial gold. The U.S. ranks first in the world for Familiarity and Influence, first in arts and entertainment, first in space, second in iconic brands, and third in innovation. That combination, unmatched cultural reach paired with technological and commercial dominance, is exactly what makes "American" a premium signal in market after market. When a customer in Seoul, São Paulo, or Berlin recognizes an American product as innovative, high-quality, and aspirational, that recognition is worth real money, and it is not going anywhere.
The mood dipped. The buying didn't.
Be honest about the headwind, because the honesty is what makes the good news credible. The U.S. soft-power score slipped 4.6 points from last year, its reputation reading softened amid international friction over "America First" trade and policy moves, and China narrowed the gap to 73.5. Those are real numbers.
Now look at what consumers actually did, because this is the part that should give exporters confidence. A YouGov survey for the retailer Galaxus, covering 5,263 consumers across Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, and Italy, found that more than half said they intended to avoid U.S. products. Yet only about 9 in 100 said they would "definitely" pay more for a non-American alternative. And when Galaxus checked its own sales, U.S. brands still made up 17.5% of May purchases, barely below the 18.3% of a year earlier. As one executive put it, that is not what a boycott looks like. Stated opinion moved a great deal. Actual purchasing hardly moved at all, because quality, design, habit, and loyalty still carried the day.
Even the sharpest case proves the point. In Canada, where friction ran hottest, it took provinces physically pulling American spirits off shelves in 2025 to drive that category down 66.3%, and a Build Canada poll from late summer 2026 still found 69% choosing Canadian despite higher prices. That is genuine pressure. But it also shows how much it takes to move American brand loyalty, and how quickly consumers reach back for American products the moment they are on the shelf and priced right.
What this means for you
You are carrying the most valuable brand of origin in the world. Use it with confidence.
Lead with the strengths the data rewards: innovation, quality, design, and iconic status. They still command a premium almost everywhere. Trust the resilience. Political sentiment is loud but shallow at the checkout; when American products compete on merit and price, they keep winning the sale. Read each market and price sharply. Where friction is highest, a competitive price and a clear quality story neutralize most of it, because few consumers will actually pay more to avoid American goods. Tell the American story where it sells, which is most places. Familiarity and influence are your #1-ranked assets. Put them to work.
The American brand is not fading. It is the most valuable on earth, and 2026 showed just how durable it is. The mood can swing, but the buying keeps coming, because "Made in America" still means something the world wants, and is still willing to pay for.
