How US import duties work
Every product that enters the United States is classified under a Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) code, and the code determines the duty. Most goods pay the General rate, goods from countries with a trade agreement may qualify for a Special rate, and a few countries fall under Column 2. Duty is usually calculated as a percentage of the product's value, a fixed amount per unit, or a combination of both.
What is landed cost?
Landed cost is the total price of getting a product to your door: the product price, freight, insurance, import duties, taxes and customs brokerage. Use the calculator above to estimate the duty portion with the official rates, refreshed daily from the US International Trade Commission (USITC).
